Nonequivalent Control Group Experiments looks a great deal like Two-Group, Before-After Design, without random treatment.

slbl3.gif (530 bytes) This is a two group design including an experimental group and a control group, but assignment to groups was not through a process of randomization.
slbl3.gif (530 bytes) The experimental group is exposed to the manipulation; the control group is not.
slbl3.gif (530 bytes) Efforts are made to match the groups.
slbl3.gif (530 bytes) Matching forms groups in such a way that the composition of units is similar across groups with respect to one or more specific characteristics. (Parasuraman, Grewal, Krishnan, 2004)
