2.  A working smoke detector doubles a person's chances of surviving a home fire.  More than 90 percent of American homes have smoke detectors but an estimated one-third of those units are either not working or are missing batteries.  Describe any mistake-proofing devices you are aware of for smoke detectors and propose stronger devices.
