Topic: Should English be designated as the official language of the United States?

Your essay will argue your point persuasively. It must include the following:

An analytical thesis statement

The use of census data from the textbook

An explanation of how you would define “official language”:

what would it mean for education?

what would it mean for business, including both the workplace and signs, ads, etc?

what would it mean for government (e.g. elections, health, safety, agriculture, etc.)?

The essay should be from 3-5 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12-point font with 1-inch margins all around. It does not have to be turned in in a folder, but you may want to bring your notes with you to the conference. The essay will be graded in conference with the professor.
